I did some searches online and found Phone Power to be the most reliable service according to reviews.
Upon ordering the service, I didn't have to wait too long (3 days). Installing the equipment was a breeze as it consisted of 3 things. The cat 5 cable, power supply and the main unit.
I installed the equipment as per instruction. Mine didn't go live right away. I had to wait another two days before it was activated because my service with at&t didn't expire until then. But once it was live it was good to go.
I only had one problem with the phone. The default volume on the phone was a little too high. That was remedied by a quick phone call to customer service who turned down the volume to a perfect level.
Ever since then I have been a happy camper. I particularly like the fact that you can check voicemail via email. The other feature I like is the cloned line. My daughter can be talking on one line and the phone will ring and I can pick up the other phone and talk simultaneously.
As I said in my ezinearticle review, the phone company will not physically disconnect you if you terminate you service with them. So your line will still be "warm". This will allow you to connect a telephone to an outlet you were using prior being disconnected. It will not have a dial tone, but in case of an emergency, you will be able to dial "911" out and receive help or assistance.
I personally verified this when I called AT&T's customer service desk. The person I talked to also didn't know this and had to put me on hold to talk to his supervisor. He then reassured me, that when you discontinue their service, you will still be able to make a "911" calls.
So there you have it, you can get rid of your old landline, purchase Phone Power and still have the option to call 911 in case of any emergency that may arise.
Overall, the service is extremely reliable and affordable. You can't ask for more with Phone Power.
